Self Portrait with Small Monkey

In this self-portrait, Frida is tied to her pet monkey, her dog (Señor Xólotl), a pre-Columbian idol and her signature by a yellow ribbon. The ribbon loops around a nail driven into the beige clouds that form the painting's background. As in most of her paintings, the images in the painting are flat and without perspective. However, in this one, the nail and the ribbon appear to have dimension.

En este autorretrato, Frida esta atada a sus mascotas: un mono y su perro (señor Xólotl) así como a un ídolo pre-colombino y su firma por medio de un lazo amarillo. El lazo se enrolla alrededor de un clavo insertado en las nubes de color beige que forman el fondo del cuadro. Como en muchas de sus pinturas, las imágenes en el cuadro son planas y sin perspectiva. No obstante, en éste, el clavo y el lazo parecen tener perspectiva.
