How Beautiful is Life When It Gives Us Its Riches

This appears to be one of the many still life paintings created by Kahlo in her lifetime. Nearly all of Kahlo's still life paintings included watermelons and coconuts. The clock, which is present in other Kahlo paintings, may be a symbol of her life passing by.

Inscribed on the banner at the bottom is the title of the painting: "How Beautiful Life is When It Gives Us Its Riches". The painting is signed and dated on the back: "Painted by Frida Kahlo, 1943".

Every since I first saw this painting I suspected that something about it was not right. It does not have the quality and detail of other paintings from that year. The colors don't seem to be the colors she would have used in this style of painting. It appears to be something she would have done in the late 20s or early 30s…not in the 40s. Also, the signature on the back is not consistent with her signature on other paintings.

In 1988, three renowned Kahlo "Gurus", Helga Prignitz-Poda, Salomón Grimberg and Andrea Kettenmann, embarked upon an ambitious project to identify and catalog every piece of Kahlo art: paintings, drawings, sketches, watercolors and some artifacts. During their research, they concluded that this painting is a forgery and was not painted by Kahlo.

Este parece ser una de las muchas naturalezas muertas que Frida creo durante su vida.Casi todas las naturalezas muertas de Kahlo incluyen sandías y cocos. El reloj, el cual está presente en otras pinturas de Kahlo y podría ser un símbolo de su vida que va pasando.

Inscrito en la banderola en la parte de abajo esta el título de la pintura "Que bonita es la vida cuando nos da sus riquezas". La pintura está firmada y fechada en la parte de atras: "Pintado por Frida Kahlo, 1943".

Desde la primera vez que vi esta pintura sospeché que algo no estaba bien. No tiene la calidad y el detalle de otras pinturas de ese año. Los colores no parecen ser los colores que hubiera usado en este estilo de pintura. Parece algo que hubiera hecho a finales de los años 20 o principios de los 30...no en los 40. Ademas, la firma en la parte de atrás no es consistente con su firma en otros cuadros.

En 1988, tres famosos Kahlo gurus, Helga Prignitz-Poda, Solomon Grimberg y Andrea Kettenmann se embarcaron en un ambicioso proyecto para identificar y catalogar cada pieza de arte producido por Kahlo: pinturas, dibujos, bosquejos,acuarelas y algunos artefactos. Durante su investigación, llegaron a la conclusión de que esta pintura es falsa y no fue pintada por Kahlo.
