Self-Portrait

This is the smallest
work that Kahlo ever produced. It is only 1.5" x 1.6" and painted
on wood. Kahlo painted this self-portrait for the Spanish artist José
Bartolí, with whom she was romantically involved for several years
and he kept it all of his life. According to Sotheby's, the dedication
on the reverse side reads: "Para Bartolí con amor, Mara",
(for Bartolí with love, Mara).
After 5 decades with the same family, the painting was auctioned at Sotheby's
in November 2000 and sold for $225,750.

cm. y lo pintó sobre madera. Kahlo pintó este retrato para
el artista español José Bartolí, con el cual tuvo
una relación sentimental durante varios años y el lo guardó
toda su vida. De acuerdo con Sotheby's, la dedicatoria en el reverso dice:

Después de 5 décadas con la misma familia, la pintura se
subastó en Sotheby's en Noviembre del 2000 y se vendió por
$225.750 dólares.
